TPC-DS

TPC Benchmark™ DS (TPC-DS) is a new Decision Support (DS) workload being developed by the TPC.

The TPC-DS benchmark models the decision support system of a retail product supplier, including queries and data maintenance. Although the underlying business model of TPC-DS is a retail product supplier, the database schema, data population, queries, data maintenance model and implementation rules have been designed to be broadly representative of modern decision support systems.

The specification consists of a written part and a collection of soft appendices. The appendices are:

Dbgen2: TPC provided software package designed to generate the data for the initial load and incremental update of the TPC-DS database.
Qgen2: TPC provided software package designed to generate SQL queries from query templates.
Query Templates: Used by Qgen2 to generate executable SQL query text
Query Variants: Approved alternative query templates
tpcds.sql/tpcds_source.sql: sample DDL of the logical schemas of the data warehouse and update sets
Qualification answers: reference output of the qualification queries
Query_order.txt: Table denoting the query ordering in each query stream
How_To_Guide.doc: Useful tips on how to get started

Draft version of the TPC-DS specification including its appendices has been approved by the TPC for public release and review.

Submitting Comments
The deadline for submitting comments is April 3, 2008. The process for submitting comments is:

Go to the Spec Comment page.
Click on the name of the document that you would like to submit comments for in the 'Current TPC Spec Reviews' Table
Click on 'Add New Comment'
Enter a descriptive header line for your comment
Enter you name
Enter the name of your company
Enter your E-mail address
Select a classification for your comment
Select a clause from the pull down menu
Enter a detailed description of your comment/suggestion/etc.
Enter the affected clauses
If appropriate enter the proposed word change.
Click on Submit - a Comment-Id will be assigned to this comment. You will be re-directed to the 'Add New Comment' page and you can either enter a new comment (e.) or return to the Review Summary page.
